Dr. Caroline Chung serves as Vice President and Chief Data & Analytics Officer, Co-Director of the Institute for Data Science in Oncology, and a tenured Professor in the Department of CNS Radiation Oncology at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center. She maintains clinical expertise in CNS malignancies while leading a computational imaging laboratory focused on quantitative imaging and modeling for personalized cancer treatment.
Dr. Chung's research interests center on applying data science and artificial intelligence to oncology, with particular focus on quantitative imaging techniques for tumor detection and characterization, modeling treatment toxicities, and developing digital twin technology for cancer care. Her work aims to transform high-quality imaging data into actionable insights for more personalized treatment approaches.
As a prominent leader in data science for oncology, Dr. Chung co-chairs the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) AI Community of Practice and serves on the NIH Advisory Committee to the Director Working Group on Artificial Intelligence. She previously served as Vice Chair of the RSNA Quantitative Imaging Biomarker Alliance and currently co-chairs the Quantitative Medical Imaging Coalition. She also leads MD Anderson's Tumor Measurement Initiative, which establishes standardized, automated approaches to quantitative imaging-based tumor measurement.
Dr. Chung joined MD Anderson in 2016 from Princess Margaret Cancer Centre in Toronto, Canada. She has been instrumental in establishing MD Anderson's institutional Data Governance and Provenance Office to ensure robust data stewardship while maximizing its effective use for cancer research and treatment advancement.
