Prof. Bruno Krucker is a Professor of Urban Design and Housing at the Technische Universität München (TUM), leading the Chair of Urban Design and Housing since 2009. He holds an ETH Zurich architecture degree (1986) with postgraduate studies in architectural history. Co-founding Ballmoos Krucker Architects in 1996, he has maintained parallel academic roles including Professor of Design at ETH Zurich (1999-2005) and visiting professorships at institutions like the Polytechnic University of Lausanne and Barcelona's International University of Catalonia.
His research interrogates contemporary urban development and housing through a lens of historical context, spatial experimentation, and non-linear design. Key themes include challenging conventional urban practices, exploring the everyday lived environment, and redefining residential typologies. His work bridges academic critique with professional architectural practice.
Prof. Krucker has been recognized with awards such as the Canton of Zurich’s Building Excellence Award (2003) and Switzerland’s Most Beautiful Books Award (2002). His publications include monographs on his architectural practice and critical studies of modernist works like the Alison and Peter Smithson pavilion.
As an active expert and juror in urban planning and architecture, he contributes to professional discourse beyond academia. His current TUM role emphasizes interdisciplinary approaches to urban challenges combining design innovation with socio-spatial analysis.
