Brooke H. Johnson

Brooke H. Johnson is Assistant Professor of Music and Director of Athletic Bands at the University of Delaware, affiliated with the School of Music in the College of Arts & Sciences. She leads the 300+ member Fightin’ Blue Hen Marching Band, co-directs the Symphonic Band, and teaches Marching Band Techniques, while also managing administrative operations for basketball and other athletic pep bands.

Her academic background includes a Doctor of Musical Arts in Wind Conducting from the University of Kansas, a Master of Music in Music Education and Conducting from Appalachian State University, and a Bachelor of Music in Music Education from the University of Delaware.

Dr. Johnson's research and professional interests center on music education, wind conducting, and athletic band programs. Her work emphasizes pedagogy, performance leadership, and ensemble administration within collegiate music settings.

She is an active guest conductor and adjudicator, contributing to the broader music education community through performance and mentorship.

Dr. Johnson previously served as Assistant Professor of Music and Director of Athletic Bands at Miami University in Oxford, OH, before joining the University of Delaware faculty. She oversees ensemble operations, curriculum development, and student engagement in performance-based music programs.

She is based in Newark, DE, and is actively involved in community and collegiate music initiatives, including guest conducting and adjudication work.
