Brooke Collins-Gearing

Dr Brooke Collins-Gearing is Senior Lecturer in English and Writing at the University of Newcastle specializing in Indigenous representation in literature. Her research examines cultural narratives in children's/YA literature through postcolonial frameworks.

Research analyzes representations of Indigeneity in Australian texts and develops pedagogical approaches to decolonize literary studies. Recent work explores plant narratives in Aboriginal picturebooks and well-being representations in YA fiction.

Secured $236,986 in ARC funding for projects on Indigenous-nonIndigenous collaboration in film/literature and studies of reading practices. Supervises 10 research students exploring trauma narratives, dystopian fiction, and Indigenous storytelling.
