Dr. Brian Gardner is an Adjunct Associate Professor in the University of Kentucky College of Pharmacy and a Board Certified Pediatric Clinical Pharmacy Specialist at Kentucky Children’s Hospital. He serves as the Clinical Coordinator for the Pediatric Pharmacy Team and the primary pharmacist in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU). As the Director of the ASHP-accredited PGY-2 Pediatric Pharmacy Residency Program, he actively mentors pharmacy residents and students. His clinical and research expertise spans pediatric pharmacokinetics, critical care medicine, antimicrobial therapy, and medication reconciliation.
Dr. Gardner holds a Doctor of Pharmacy from the University of Kentucky (2009) and completed a PGY1 Pharmacy Practice Residency at the University of Louisville. His research focuses on optimizing drug therapies for pediatric patients, including vancomycin dosing strategies, aminoglycoside toxicity in cystic fibrosis patients, and improving diagnostic processes in neonatal herpes simplex virus infections. He is an active member of the Pediatric Pharmacy Association, contributing to finance committee initiatives.
His clinical roles include directing pediatric residency programs and advancing evidence-based practices in critical care and antimicrobial stewardship. Dr. Gardner’s work emphasizes improving medication safety and clinical outcomes through pharmacist-led interventions in pediatric settings.
