Brett Lambert

Brett Lambert serves as a Senior Lecturer in Occupational Therapy at the University of Sunderland's Health Sciences school. With extensive clinical experience in the NHS, he brings practical expertise to his academic role, focusing particularly on mental health applications of occupational therapy.

His educational background includes teaching the Psychosocial Interventions Foundation course, MSc CBT for Psychosis, and the Public Mental Health module. His teaching spans assessment and formulation, clinical interventions, activity and health, relapse prevention, public health, adult nursing, and paramedic science.

Dr. Lambert's research centers on occupation and health, psychosocial interventions, adult mental health, recovery processes, and stress vulnerability. He has conducted qualitative research using case study methodology to examine NHS staff perspectives on outcomes of local pilot initiatives in GP surgeries.

With substantial clinical experience, he has worked across mental health services as an occupational therapist in acute in-patient settings, prison mental health, and community mental health environments, as well as serving as a generic mental health worker. He possesses additional clinical training in psychosocial interventions for psychosis.

His leadership expertise includes three years of experience leading project work streams across a large NHS Trust, requiring cross-organizational collaboration. He has developed leadership skills through formal training, self-directed learning, feedback mechanisms, coaching, and various leadership positions, with particular interest in adapting leadership models from other disciplines to healthcare environments.
