Benjamin Yates

Benjamin Yates is an Associate Professor of Trombone at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, where he holds the Heymann/BORSF Professorship in Music and was named a 2025 Faculty Fellow. He teaches trombone, euphonium, and tuba lessons, coaches brass chamber music, conducts trombone ensembles, and performs with the Louisiana Brass Quintet.

His educational background includes:

• Bachelor's from Luther College (2008)

Dr. Yates specializes in trombone performance and music education with emphasis on low brass pedagogy and chamber music. His research extends to global community music outreach through the Service Organization of Music Professors, which he co-founded to supply instruments and resources to underserved programs worldwide.

As an educator, Dr. Yates has mentored students who became successful musicians and educators globally. His international master classes span Austria, Brazil, China, Japan, and the UAE.
