Matthias Weiß

Matthias Weiß is a trombonist and academic lecturer holding positions at the University of the Arts Bremen (since 2022/23) and the Symphonic Orchestra of the Landestheater Detmold. He specializes in brass performance, chamber music, and music education. His teaching spans trombone, euphonium, and masterclasses internationally.

• Education: Studied trombone under Werner Schrietter, Henning Wiegräbe, and Jonas Bylund in Karlsruhe, Stuttgart, and Hannover.

His research interests focus on pedagogical approaches to brass instruments, orchestral performance techniques, and interdisciplinary chamber music collaborations. Students under his mentorship have won national awards (e.g., 2025 Jugend Musiziert) and joined professional orchestras.

Ensembles include the tuba quartet 'Heavy Mettal,' brass quintet 'Symphonie Brass Detmold,' and collaborations with harp and piano trios. He has performed with renowned orchestras such as the Beethoven Orchestra Bonn and NDR Radiophilharmonie, touring across Europe, Australia, and Asia.
