Steven Dyer

Steven Dyer is an MPS Instructor in the Desautels Faculty of Music at the University of Manitoba, specializing in trombone, euphonium, and directing Brass Chamber Music. He concurrently serves as Principal Trombonist for the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra since 2011, having joined as Second Trombonist in 2001.

His research and creative works center on brass performance pedagogy and historical performance practice, with emphasis on trombone and euphonium techniques. Dyer actively explores sackbut repertoire through collaborations with early music ensembles, integrating historical context into contemporary brass education.

Dyer's mentorship has produced successful music educators across Manitoba and competition-winning performers in prestigious ensembles. His professional activities include studio recordings with artists like Dave Lawton and James Keelaghan, plus performances with the National Arts Centre Orchestra and Toronto Symphony Orchestra. During summers, he serves as Assistant Director and Instructor of Low Brass for Young Musicians and Artists in Salem, Oregon.
