Ben Chester Cheong is a Singaporean legal academic and lawyer with 10 years' experience. He holds a permanent Law Lecturer position at Singapore University of Social Sciences (SUSS) School of Law since December 2018 and is a Visiting Fellow at the University of Reading’s School of Law (since November 2024). He is also the inaugural MOE-START Overseas PhD Scholar at SUSS (since August 2024). Additionally, he serves as Of Counsel at RHTLaw Asia and a Centre Researcher at the Cambridge Centre for Environment, Energy and Natural Resource Governance (C-EENRG).
Ben graduated with a Master of Law from the University of Cambridge (2015), a first-class LLB from the University of Exeter (top 2/241 students), and holds professional qualifications in Singapore and England & Wales. His research spans public/private law, legal theory, technology law, and corporate governance, with over 190 citations in top-tier journals like the Law Quarterly Review and Journal of Business Law. He has been featured in global media outlets such as The Straits Times and Nikkei Asia.
Ben received SUSS’s university-level Outstanding Teaching Award (2022) and Excellence in Teaching Award (2021). He teaches Law of Business Organisations, Contract Law, and Equity & Trusts, and has advised on corporate law modules for the Singapore Bar Examinations.
