Walter Woon is a Lee Kong Chian Visiting Professor of Law at Singapore Management University’s Yong Pung How School of Law. He concurrently serves as Chairman of RHTLaw Asia LLP and Honorary Fellow of St John’s College Cambridge. Previously, he held senior roles including Dean of NUS Faculty of Law (2010–2022), Attorney-General (2008–2010), and Ambassador to Germany (1998–2006). He holds an LL.M. (First Class Honours) from the University of Cambridge (1983) and an LL.B. (First Class Honours) from the National University of Singapore (1981).
His research focuses on Company Law, Criminal Law, and International Law, particularly ASEAN legal frameworks. Current projects include a book on Essential Company Law and editorial work on Woon’s Corporations Law. He has advised on ASEAN Charter drafting and served on high-level government panels like the Market Surveillance & Compliance Panel of the Energy Market Company.
Key publications include Essential Company Law (in progress), The ASEAN Charter: A Commentary (2015), and analyses of Sino-American relations. Awards include Emeritus Professor status at NUS and Honorary Fellowships at St John’s College Cambridge.
Woon has led major institutions: Singapore Institute of Legal Education (2010–2020), RHT Legal Training Institute, and the Goethe-Institut (Singapore). He chairs the Society of International Law Singapore and is involved in charities like St John’s Singapore.
