Beatriz Roldán Cuenya

Prof. Beatriz Roldán Cuenya is the Director of the Interface Science Department at the Fritz Haber Institute of the Max Planck Society in Berlin, Germany. She concurrently serves as Interim Director of the Inorganic Chemistry Department. Her academic journey includes a MSc in Physics (1998, Spain), PhD in Physics (2001, Germany), and postdoctoral research at the University of California, Santa Barbara (USA). She held professorial roles at the University of Central Florida (2004–2013) and Ruhr-University Bochum (2013–2017) before joining the FHI in 2017.

Her research focuses on interface science, inorganic chemistry, catalysis, and materials science, with applications in electrochemistry and solid-state physics. She has authored 245 peer-reviewed publications, 6 book chapters, and 6 patents, achieving an H-index of 85 and over 30,000 citations. She serves on the editorial boards of Journal of Catalysis and Chemical Reviews.

Notable awards include the Margarita Salas Award (2024), Faraday Medal (2022), and recognition as a Clarivate Highly Cited Researcher (2021–2023). She is a Fellow of the American Vacuum Society and a member of prestigious academies like Academia Europaea and Leopoldina.
