Beatriz Roldán Cuenya

Prof. Dr. Beatriz Roldán Cuenya is the Director of the Department of Interface Science at the Fritz Haber Institute of the Max Planck Society in Berlin, Germany. She also serves as an interim director of the Inorganic Chemistry Department. Her academic journey includes roles as a Full Professor at Ruhr-University Bochum (2013–present) and the University of Central Florida (2004–2013). She holds a PhD in Physics from the University of Duisburg-Essen (2001) and a BS in Physics from the University of Oviedo (1998).

Research Interests: Her work focuses on catalysis, surface science, and electrochemistry, particularly in energy conversion systems. Key areas include the design of nanoparticle catalysts for CO2 electroreduction, water splitting, and understanding catalyst dynamics under operando conditions. Her interdisciplinary approach combines advanced synthesis and characterization techniques to optimize catalyst performance.

Publications & Awards: With over 245 peer-reviewed publications and an H-index of 85, her work has been recognized with prestigious awards such as the Faraday Medal (2022), Paul H. Emmett Award (2022), and membership in the German National Academy of Sciences (2024). Recent work includes studies on copper catalyst restructuring and green hydrogen production models.

Labs & Collaborations: Her department investigates catalyst behavior in liquid and gas environments, collaborating with institutions like UCLA and the University of Nottingham. She leads the Interface Science department, advancing sustainable energy solutions through fundamental catalysis research.
