Basil Alexander is an Assistant Professor at the University of New Brunswick's Faculty of Law. He holds a Bachelor of Arts & Science (Honours) from McMaster University, a Bachelor of Laws (Co-op) and Master of Public Administration from the University of Victoria, and a Master of Laws from the University of Toronto. His PhD research at Queen's University focuses on Canadian cause lawyering.
His research examines law as a tool for social change, with particular emphasis on civil liberties, legal ethics, and Indigenous rights litigation. He brings practical experience from his work with the Nunavut Court of Justice and public interest law firms.
Awarded the 2020-21 Teaching Excellence Award, he teaches Foundations of Law, Legal Research and Advocacy, and Legal Ethics. His publications analyze protest law dynamics and cause lawyering strategies in the Canadian context.
