Barbara Sadler is a Senior Lecturer and Programme Leader for the BA (Hons) Film and Media at the University of Sunderland. A graduate of the university herself (BA Media/MA Media and Culture), she holds a PGCE PCET teaching qualification. Her research focuses on the interplay between Identities, Place, Institutions, Media Production, and Audience Studies. Her doctoral work, funded by AHRC, explored ITV’s regional history and its connections to identity through analysis of station identifiers and the program The Way We Were. She teaches modules including Multimedia Communication, Media Theory, and Media and Society.
She actively supervises PhD research in gaming cultures, K-pop fan cultures, podcasting, and female comedy. She serves on the Academic Misconduct Panel and the Equality, Diversity and Inclusion committee. Her office is located in the David Puttnam Media Centre, room 218.
