BRIAN PATRICK

Brian Patrick is a Professor in the Department of Film and Media Arts at the University of Utah since 1999. He holds an MFA from Ohio University School of Film and has taught at multiple institutions including Ohio University, University of Colorado, and UC Santa Cruz. His career spans over 30 years of award-winning documentary filmmaking.

Education:

• MFA in Film, Ohio University School of Film

Research Interests: Specializes in documentary filmmaking, film production techniques, and film history. Notable focus areas include Holocaust survivor narratives, Indigenous cultural documentation (Navajo Medicine Men), and controversial historical events like the Mountain Meadows Massacre. Develops courses in film/video production, documentary, experimental film, and directing.

Academic Journey:

• 1978-1999: Progressed through Visiting Assistant Professor to Professor roles in Theatre and Art & Art History at University of Utah
• 1975-78: Filmmaker-in-Residence, Wyoming Arts Council

Recent Work: Completed the feature documentary Burying the Past - Legacy of The Mountain Meadows Massacre (11 awards). Currently producing documentaries on Navajo Medicine Men and Mountain Meadows Massacre descendants.
