Axel Roesler is a Professor of Interaction Design and Chair of the Division of Design at the University of Washington. He holds adjunct roles in the Department of Human Centered Design and Engineering (HCDE) and the MHCI+D Program. His research focuses on interaction design for high-stakes environments, extended reality, and design cognition. He is a founding faculty member of the Interaction Design Program and the MHCI+D Program, and leads the UW DUB group. He received the Marsha and Jay Glazer Endowed University Professorship (2018–2023).
Education: PhD in Cognitive Systems Engineering (The Ohio State University, 2005), MFA in Industrial Design (Ohio State University, 2001), Diplom in Industrial Design (Burg Giebichenstein University of Art and Design, Germany, 2000).
Research interests include line-of-sight interaction in AR/VR, medical emergency documentation, and collaboration with industry partners like Boeing, Microsoft, and Google. His work bridges design theory, technology, and human cognition.
