Ash Murphy

Dr Ash Murphy is a Senior Lecturer in Law at Manchester Metropolitan University, specializing in international climate law, environmental security, and the role of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) in addressing climate challenges. He holds a PhD in International Climate Law and Securitisation from Keele University, alongside an LLM in International Law and an LLB from Liverpool University. His research focuses on climate security frameworks, emerging technologies' environmental impacts, and UNSC interventions in global crises.

Teaching includes Public Constitutional Law, Public International Law, and Public Law across LLB and LLM programs. He co-authored groundbreaking work on legal education for digital natives in the post-reading era and frequently publishes on climate law and policy in journals like Carbon & Climate Law Review and Keele Law Review.

Recent work highlights include analyzing climate change and metaverse governance, UNSC's role in climate securitization, and the intersection of global health and security. His media contributions span The Conversation, Planetary Security Initiative, and ARD Broadcasting, addressing deforestation, COP efficacy, and climate policy failures. Dr Murphy is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA) and actively engages in interdisciplinary dialogues on climate justice and digital sustainability.
