Arnab Mukherjea

Dr. Arnab Mukherjea is an Associate Professor of Public Health at California State University, East Bay and serves as Faculty Director for the Health Professions Office of the Chancellor for the California State University system. He additionally directs the Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) Middle Leadership Academy and oversees the CSU Asian American, Native Hawaiian & Pacific Islander Student Achievement Program. His dual doctorates (DrPH from UC Berkeley and MPH from UC Berkeley) are complemented by postdoctoral training at UCSF and UC Davis in tobacco control and chronic disease prevention.

Education: BA in Molecular & Cell Biology (UC Berkeley), MPH in Health & Social Behavior (UC Berkeley), DrPH in Applied Health Disparities Research (UC Berkeley), with postdoctoral training at UCSF/UC Davis.

Research focuses on health disparities among Asian American and Pacific Islander populations, particularly addressing structural racism's impact on health outcomes. He emphasizes community-participatory approaches to tackle issues like colorectal cancer screening disparities, tobacco use among South Asian communities, and pandemic-related health misinformation. His work has been funded by NIH, CDC, and California's Tobacco-Related Disease Research Program.

Media engagements include over 20 interviews on topics ranging from vaccine mandates to pandemic response strategies, reflecting his role as a public health spokesperson. He maintains affiliations with the Asian American Research Center for Health (ARCH) and AANCART Training Core, and has developed innovative educational outreach programs for underserved populations.

Labs/Teams: Active in the Asian American Research Center for Health (ARCH) and leads the AANHPI Middle Leadership Academy. Collaborates with UCSF, UC Davis, and UC Berkeley on policy and research initiatives.
