Araida Hidalgo

Dr Araida Hidalgo is a Senior Lecturer in Medical Cell Biology and Programme Leader for the MBioMedSci (Hons) Biomedical Science at Manchester Metropolitan University's Department of Life Sciences, Faculty of Science and Engineering. She is also the International Lead for her department, supporting international students' academic and pastoral needs.

Her educational foundation includes a degree in Biotechnology and a PhD from the University of Nottingham. She completed postdoctoral research at Keele University and the University of Manchester.

Dr Hidalgo's research and teaching focus on biomedical science and medical cell biology, with strong emphasis on research-oriented education, international collaboration, and inclusion. Her work is informed by national and international partnerships, and she is passionate about training future scientists, particularly first-generation and international students.

She has successfully secured over £500,000 in research funding and contributes significantly to academic service through roles in professional societies and international institutions.

Dr Hidalgo is actively involved in mentoring, grant acquisition, and curriculum development. As Programme Leader, she ensures alignment with NHS standards for clinical and laboratory training. She has served on the Biomedical Sciences panel for the Newton Funds (British Council grants) and held positions at universities in Italy and Mexico.

She leads initiatives promoting diversity in Life Sciences and works closely with the University’s International Office to enhance the experience of global students.
