Andres Hidalgo is a Professor of Immunobiology at Yale School of Medicine with additional appointments in Cancer Immunology, Vascular Biology and Therapeutics Program, Yale Cancer Center, and Yale Combined Program in the Biological and Biomedical Sciences (BBS).

His research focuses on the cellular and molecular mechanisms by which innate immune cells, particularly neutrophils and their hematopoietic precursors, contribute to organismal physiology and pathology. Hidalgo's laboratory has developed live imaging technologies to study thrombo-inflammation and its consequences in multiple organs including the lung, brain, and heart. His groundbreaking work has revealed new functions for innate immune cells and demonstrated that circadian rhythms in the bone marrow are entrained in part by neutrophils entering this organ.
Analysis of his recent publications shows a strong focus on neutrophil heterogeneity across tissues, the role of neutrophils in skin barrier function, neutrophil adaptations in cancer, and the circadian regulation of neutrophil functions. His work spans fundamental immunology to translational applications in cancer and regenerative medicine.
Hidalgo has received significant recognition for his work, with publications in top journals including Nature, Cell, Science, and Immunity. His research has important implications for understanding inflammatory diseases, cancer progression, and tissue regeneration.
