Prof. Annette Markham is a Professor of Media Literacies and Public Engagement at Utrecht University's Department of Media and Culture Studies. Her work focuses on ethical digital futures, digital ethnography, and critical pedagogy. She leads the Futures + Literacies + Methods Lab, exploring AI ethics and community engagement. Previously, she held roles at RMIT, Aarhus, and Umeå Universities, with notable projects like the Digital Ethnography Research Centre and Skagen Institute. Her research spans digital identity, qualitative methods, and societal impacts of AI/datafication. She advises interdisciplinary initiatives and co-leads global ethics summits like Society 5.0 Ethics.
