About
Prof. Annette Leßmöllmann serves as Professor of Science Communication with a focus on linguistics at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), heading the Science Communication Professorship within the Institute for Technology Futures. Her work critically examines the interface between scientific research and public understanding in contemporary digital landscapes.
Her research prioritizes overcoming communication barriers in digital spaces, particularly regarding engagement of hard-to-reach audiences and the impact of individual beliefs/worldviews on scientific statement evaluation. She emphasizes that effective science communication requires active listening to emotional drivers behind controversial topics and advocates for robust media literacy to navigate platform-specific communication dynamics without linguistic distortion.
Leßmöllmann actively addresses AI-generated disinformation threats through her project partnership at the Tübingen Center for Rhetorical Science Communication Research on Artificial Intelligence (RHET AI Center). She contributes to ethical discourse as a member of KIT's Academy for Responsible Research, Teaching, and Innovation (ARRTI) and represents the German Rectors' Conference on the Deutschlandfunk Radio Council, while co-editing the 2020 Handbook of Science Communication.
