About
Dr. Maria Vrellou is a Post-doctoral Researcher at Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), Germany, within the Hydrogen Micromechanics group of the Institute for Applied Materials – Mechanics of Materials and Interfaces (IAM-MMI) since May 2023.
Her educational background includes:
- Ph.D. in Physics from Normandie Université, France (2019-2023), conducted through a collaboration between GPM (Groupe Physique des Matériaux) and CRIEPI (Central Research Institute of Electric Power Industry), Japan, under the supervision of Prof. Philippe Pareige and Dr. Bertrand Radiguet.
- MSc in Material Science – Nanoscience from Université de Rouen, France (2018-2019).
- Diplôme d’ingénieur (Master’s equivalent) from INSA Rouen, France (2013-2019).
Dr. Vrellou specializes in hydrogen embrittlement and material degradation in extreme environments, with focused expertise on neutron-irradiated steels and oxide dispersion strengthened (ODS) alloys. Her research addresses critical challenges for nuclear fusion infrastructure and energy systems where materials face radiation, hydrogen exposure, and thermal stress. She contributes to KIT's Fusion Materials Laboratory (FML) investigating micromechanical failure mechanisms.
Her ORCID profile (0009-0002-0856-8859) documents her scholarly output in materials science.
