She holds affiliations with the International Inequalities Institute at LSE and serves on multiple academic and policy groups, including the BSA Care and Social Reproduction Study Group, the Gender Justice and Wellbeing Economy research programme, and the Women’s Budget Group’s Policy Advisory Group.
Her research spans transnational labour mobility, post-socialist transformations in Central and Eastern Europe, and the interplay between neoliberal policies and gendered inequalities. She has advised the European Commission and contributed to EU policy analysis, particularly regarding social and gender equality directives. Key expertise includes the impact of EU enlargement, migration patterns, and work-family policy reforms.
Plomien’s scholarship bridges macro-level policy analysis with micro-level studies of lived experiences, emphasizing how gendered inequalities are embedded in everyday work and care practices. Her recent work critiques the neoliberalization of welfare systems and explores pathways toward gender-just social reproduction policies.
