Daniela Tepe-Belfrage is a Lecturer in Sociology, Criminology, and Social Policy. Her work focuses on social policy, gender, and political economy through a social reproduction lens. She has held previous roles at the University of Sheffield as a Faculty Research Fellow and at King’s College London. Her education includes a PhD from the University of Birmingham (funded by ESRC), with master’s degrees in Public Administration, Political Science, and Political Science Research Methods.
Research interests include gendered dimensions of social policy, debt, austerity, household economies, and global inequality. Current projects explore the Troubled Families Programme’s gendered impacts, debt advice systems, and food/housing poverty in Liverpool. She has secured grants such as the ESRC-funded Care Commission (2015-2017) and a Social Science Faculty grant at Sheffield (2013-2016).
- Professional Activities: Guest Editor for Journal of International Relations and Development, Review of International Political Economy, and British Politics; Editor of Capital & Class; Advisory Board Member for Review of Capital as Power.
- Teaching: Module coordinator for GENDER AND THE WELFARE STATE (SOCI332) and SOCIAL CHANGE AND SOCIAL POLICY IN CONTEMPORARY SOCIETY 1 (SOCI102); teaches courses on sociological theory, criminology, and research methods.
- Labs/Teams: Commissioner for the Political Studies Association’s Crisis of Care in Austerity Britain initiative, collaborating with Warwick University, Fawcett Society, and Women’s Budget Group.
