Angharad Butler-Rees is a Research Fellow at the University of Birmingham's School of Education, specifically in the Department of Disability, Inclusion and Special Needs (DISN). Her current research focuses on the 'Access to Learning – Learning to Access' study, funded by the RNIB, which aligns with the Curriculum Framework of Children and Young People with Vision Impairment (CFVI).
Her research interests emphasize inclusive education, disability, social justice, and inequalities. Previously, she held a Research Fellowship in the Department of Sociology at the University of Warwick (2020-2023), investigating disabled young people’s post-16 transitions and mechanisms linking adolescent disability to later social disadvantage. She has also worked at the University of Southampton’s Centre for Research in Inclusion and collaborated with charities like Leonard Cheshire Disability and UCAN Productions, a creative arts cooperative for blind and partially sighted youth.
Angharad’s work bridges academic research and practical advocacy, addressing systemic barriers faced by marginalized groups in education and society.
