Professor Angela Leung is a Full-time Faculty member and Professor of Psychology at Singapore Management University (SMU), affiliated with the School of Social Sciences (SOSS). She joined SMU in 2007 and holds a PhD in Social Psychology from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, and a B.Soc.Sc. from the University of Hong Kong. Her research focuses on the intersection of culture and psychology, examining how multiculturalism, creativity, globalization, and societal challenges like environmental sustainability impact human thriving.
Her academic roles include Co-Editor-in-Chief of the Asian Journal of Social Psychology and Associate Editor of the Journal of Cross-Cultural Psychology. She has authored/co-authored influential works such as Cultural Processes: A Social Psychological Perspective (2010) and Handbook of Culture and Creativity (2018), and her research has been featured in top-tier journals like Psychological Science and Journal of Personality and Social Psychology.
Leung’s research interests span multicultural competence, creativity, globalization psychology, motivated cultural cognition, and embodied cognition. She explores topics such as paradox management, work-motherhood enrichment, and the psychology of climate change. Her work emphasizes how individuals navigate cultural complexities to foster creativity and societal resilience.
She has received accolades including the Lee Kong Chian Fellowship (2018-2020) and numerous research awards. Her teaching covers psychology research methods, motivation, creativity, and cultural/social psychology. She mentors a team including PhD candidates (e.g., Edison Sora Tan, Huang Tengjiao) and master’s students (e.g., Xinyao Yu), and her lab addresses challenges in global sustainability and cultural adaptation.
