Chandran KUKATHAS is a Full-time Professor of Political Science at the School of Social Sciences (SOSS), Singapore Management University (SMU), holding the Lee Kong Chian Chair Professorship. Previously, he served as Head of the Department of Government at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) from 2015 to 2019, and held roles including Chair of Political Theory and Warden of Halls of Residence at LSE. He has also taught at the University of Utah, University of New South Wales, Oxford University, and the Australian National University.
He earned a Bachelor of Arts in History and Political Science from the Australian National University, a Master of Arts in Politics from the University of New South Wales, and a Doctor of Philosophy in Politics from Oxford University.
His research focuses on political theory, multiculturalism, and the philosophy of F.A. Hayek. He is renowned for works such as The Liberal Archipelago: A Theory of Diversity and Freedom and co-authored texts like Rawls: A Theory of Justice and Its Critics. His scholarship bridges academic and public policy discourse, addressing contemporary liberal thought and institutional frameworks.
