Dr. Ana Rueda is a renowned Professor of Spanish Literature & Culture and William T. Bryan Endowed Chair at the University of Kentucky's Department of Hispanic Studies (College of Arts & Sciences). She earned her Ph.D. in Spanish Literature from Vanderbilt University (1985) and has held leadership roles including Department Chair (2005–2014) and John E. Keller Endowed Professor (2015–2020). Her research focuses on Modern/Contemporary Spanish Literature, Colonial Studies, and Gender Studies, with major works like La Guerra de África (1859-1860) en la imaginación literaria (2025), awarded the Harriet S. Turner Prize (2024). She has received NEH Fellowships and the Hispanex Award (Spain), alongside teaching accolades including the Kemper Award.
Education: Ph.D., Spanish Literature (Vanderbilt University, 1985); M.A., Linguistics (University of Florida, 1980); B.A., Psycholinguistics & Philosophy of Language (Kenyon College, 1977).
Research Interests: Colonial/Neocolonial Narratives, Gender in Literature, Short Fiction, Literary Memory, and Critical Theory. Over 50 publications span scholarly monographs, critical editions, and articles in Iberoamericana and AIG Journal. Her work bridges historical analysis with contemporary interdisciplinary frameworks.
Grants & Support: Recipient of funding from Spain’s Ministry of Culture, European Union Next Generation funds, and UK institutional grants. Her projects explore transnational memory networks and early modern women’s writing.
Labs/Teams: Active in UK’s Hispanic Studies Research Collective and collaborates internationally with Iberoamericana Vervuert publishers. Her upcoming projects include a digital archive of 19th-century Spanish captivity narratives.
