Amy Locklear Hertel

Amy Locklear Hertel is a Clinical Assistant Professor at the UNC School of Social Work and Executive Vice Provost at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. A Lumbee Tribal citizen with Coharie heritage, her work centers Indigenous knowledge to drive social/political action and community development. She co-led Carolina Next's 'Build Our Community Together' initiative, emphasizing collaborative goal-setting.

Her research integrates tribal worldviews with cross-cultural engagement strategies. Previously directed the UNC American Indian Center, fostering interdisciplinary partnerships with Native Nations. Served as Chief of Staff to two UNC chancellors, advancing institutional strategic priorities.
