Alynna Lyon is a Professor of Political Science at the University of New Hampshire, where she serves as Chair of Political Science and International Affairs. She is also a Faculty Fellow in the Murkland Interdisciplinary Scholars Team Program and the Global Racial and Social Inequality Lab. Professor Lyon is Editor-in-Chief of Global Governance and serves as Faculty Advisor for UNH Model United Nations.
Her educational background includes a Ph.D. in International Relations & Affairs from the University of South Carolina, an M.A. in Political Science from New Mexico State University at Alamogordo, and a B.A. in Political Science from the same institution.
Professor Lyon's research focuses on critical issues in international relations:
- Ethnic conflict and its management
- Humanitarian intervention and the Responsibility to Protect
- UN peacekeeping operations and effectiveness
- United States foreign policy toward international organizations
- The evolving role of the United Nations in global governance
- World politics and international cooperation
Her extensive publication record demonstrates a consistent focus on international organizations, US-UN relations, and the intersection of religion and global politics. Recent work has examined multilateral responses to global crises, the 75th anniversary of UN peacekeeping, and Pope Francis's role as a global moral authority. Her scholarship bridges theoretical frameworks with practical policy implications, contributing significantly to debates about the future of global governance.
Professor Lyon has received several research grants supporting her work:

She actively mentors students through her role as Faculty Advisor for UNH Model United Nations and has served as Chair of the International Organization section of the International Studies Association (2016-2018).
