Alka Dev, DrPH, MHS, is an Assistant Professor at The Dartmouth Institute for Health Policy and Clinical Practice within the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth College. With over 20 years of global health experience, she focuses on advancing health equity for underserved populations worldwide.
Her educational background includes:
- Dual Bachelor’s degrees in Chemistry and Women’s Studies from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill
- Master’s in Health Science from Johns Hopkins University
- Doctorate in Public Health from the Graduate Center of the City University of New York
Dev’s research centers on maternal-newborn health equity, particularly resource scarcity impacts during pregnancy. She led Haiti’s neonatal ward establishment (2016-2019), developing integrated maternal-newborn service models and bilingual nursing training. Currently, she investigates how resource uncertainty affects maternal-newborn outcomes in the U.S. and globally, emphasizing systemic inequities.
At Geisel, she served as course director for equity-focused MD/MPH courses, social justice curriculum advisor, and co-chaired the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee. She was also a key member of the Dartmouth International Health Group, leveraging prior leadership roles at WHO, UNDP, PATH, and Helen Keller International.
