Alison Smith

Alison Smith is an Associate Professor at the University of Georgia, affiliated with the College of Environment + Design. Her scholarly interests span Landscape Architecture and Urban Planning + Design, with a focus on ecological design integration into infrastructure projects and sustainable urban development.

Her research includes high-impact projects such as a Biodiversity Action Plan for Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, reimagining the airport’s 4,700-acre grounds as an ecological hub. She also led a studio project designing a foraging and education garden for chimpanzees at Project Chimps sanctuary, merging landscape architecture with animal welfare. Smith actively engages students in applied design through initiatives like the College’s Spring Critique Week.
