Her work intersects environmental justice, postcolonial geography, and Indigenous rights, emphasizing the impact of resource extraction on marginalized communities.
Her publications, including articles in the Journal of Latin American Geography and contributions to the edited book Testimonio: Canadian Mining in the Aftermath of Genocides in Guatemala, highlight struggles against mining operations and the socio-ecological consequences of development. Her photography documenting the Q’eqchi’ Maya resistance to the Fenix nickel mine has been exhibited internationally.
Pedersen is Co-Chair of MiningWatch Canada and President of the Limestone Beekeepers’ Guild, integrating her environmental activism with community engagement and conservation efforts.
