About
Dr. Alessia Angelin is an Assistant Professor of Biochemistry at the University of Rome Tor Vergata's School of Medicine. Her research program investigates metabolic adaptations in disease states, particularly mitochondrial dysfunction in cancer progression.
Current projects examine the polyol pathway's contribution to tumor development and p63's regulatory role in muscular differentiation. Her laboratory employs omics approaches and cellular models to characterize metabolic rewiring during neoplastic transformation.
With 15 years of international research experience, Angelin developed AAV-based gene therapies for mitochondrial disorders during postdoctoral work at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. Her expertise includes mitochondrial physiology, immunometabolism, and cancer bioenergetics.
