Dr. Abhinand Thai is an epidemiologist at the Public Health Agency of Canada and an Associate Member of the School of Occupational and Public Health at Toronto Metropolitan University. He holds a BSc in Biochemistry and Biotechnology from Wilfrid Laurier University, a BASc in Occupational Health and Safety from Toronto Metropolitan University, and an MSc and PhD in Epidemiology from the University of Guelph. His research spans mental health, health communication, environmental health, infectious diseases, and public health policy.
Dr. Thai has contributed to initiatives with organizations such as Health Canada, CGIAR, and the National Collaborating Centre for Methods and Tools. His work focuses on student mental health, vaccine hesitancy, food safety, and institutional health policies. He has served on the President’s Task Force on Student Mental Health at the University of Guelph and advised on public health emergency communication strategies.
His research combines qualitative and quantitative methods to explore factors influencing health behaviors, including food safety practices, vaccine uptake, and institutional policies. Dr. Thai is available to supervise MSc students in Occupational and Public Health starting 2025-2026.
