Kim Varma

Dr. Kim Varma is a Professor in the Department of Criminology at Toronto Metropolitan University. She holds a PhD and MA in Criminology from the University of Toronto and a BA in Sociology from Wilfrid Laurier University. Her research focuses on community crime prevention, youth justice policy, and social assistance fraud. She has authored numerous peer-reviewed articles and is co-author of the upcoming book 'Guardians of the Community: The Block Parent® Program of Canada' (University of Toronto Press, 2025).

Her research interests include public perceptions of crime prevention, youth sentencing, and bail decision-making. She has explored topics such as volunteer roles in community safety, social welfare fraud, and historical criminological studies. Dr. Varma teaches courses on youth justice and restorative justice in Canada.
