Aaron R. Campbell

Aaron R. Campbell, Ph.D., is an Assistant Professor of Special Education in the College of Education and Human Development at the University of Missouri. He conducts research on equitable intervention delivery within multi-tiered behavior support frameworks, with a focus on improving academic, social, emotional, and behavioral outcomes for culturally and linguistically diverse learners and students in underserved communities.

His research interests center on culturally responsive Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) and Social-Emotional Learning (SEL), reducing exclusionary discipline practices, addressing racial disproportionality in school discipline, and strengthening student-teacher relationships for marginalized students with or at risk of Emotional and Behavioral Disorders (EBD). He emphasizes the implementation and sustainability of evidence-based practices in real-world educational settings.

Dr. Campbell directs an inaugural research lab involving both undergraduate and graduate students, focused on refining interventions to improve instructional time and classroom inclusion. He also provides technical assistance nationally to state, district, and school teams on preventative practices, implicit bias in classroom management, and effective behavior strategies.

His professional affiliations include the Association of Positive Behavior Support (APBS), the University of Missouri School-Wide PBS Center, the Council for Exceptional Children (CEC) – including its Divisions of Research and Emotional and Behavioral Health, and the Midwest Symposium for Leadership in Behavioral Disorders (MSLBD).

Dr. Campbell's teaching and research are unified by a commitment to equity, prevention, and culturally sustaining practices in special and general education settings. He is actively involved in training future educators and supporting school systems in adopting inclusive, evidence-based approaches to student behavior and social-emotional development.
