Takaaki Kajita is a Nobel Laureate in Physics (2015) and Guest Professor affiliated with the Institute for Cosmic Ray Research at the University of Tokyo. He serves as principal investigator at the Institute for the Physics and Mathematics of the Universe in Tokyo and directs the Super-Kamiokande experiment.
- Awards:
- Nobel Prize in Physics (2015) for discovering neutrino oscillations and proving neutrinos have mass
Research Interests
- Neutrino oscillations
- Atmospheric neutrino anomalies
- Particle physics
Key Contributions
Leading the Kamiokande and Super-Kamiokande experiments, he demonstrated the μ-neutrino/e-neutrino flux ratio anomaly (60% of theoretical predictions) in 1988, identified zenith-angle dependencies in 1994, and confirmed neutrino oscillations through Super-Kamiokande data analysis in 1998.
