Željko Pavić is a researcher at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Josip Juraj Strossmayer University of Osijek, Croatia. His work focuses on public health, social psychology, and the intersection of political/religious values with science literacy and vaccine hesitancy.
Research Interests: He investigates how science credibility perception and institutional trust mediate relationships between demographic factors (age, political orientation, religiosity) and vaccine hesitancy, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic. His studies employ structural equation modeling and nationally representative surveys.
Key Findings: Lower science literacy, higher religiosity, right-wing political identification, and younger age correlate with increased vaccine hesitancy. Institutional trust showed unexpected inverse relationships with hesitancy in Croatian context, linked to historical and socio-political factors.
Awards & Grants: Funded by the Croatian Science Foundation under Grant IP-2019-04-7902.
Collaborations: Co-authored research on vaccine hesitancy with Adrijana Šuljok and others.
