Şebnem Yücel is a Professor and Dean at the Faculty of Arts Design and Architecture, MEF University. She earned her B.Arch from Middle East Technical University (1993), MSc from University of Cincinnati (1998), and Ph.D. from Arizona State University (2003). Her academic career includes teaching at Izmir Institute of Technology, private universities in Izmir, and organizing international conferences.

Her research focuses on cultural identity in architecture, non-Western modernisms, and representation of minorities. Publications analyze topics like minority spaces ("Cortijos of Izmir"), regional modernism, and curatorial practices in architecture.
She has served on juries for national architectural competitions and contributed to academic discourse through roles in the Izmir Chamber of Architects, 4T Design and Design History Association, and editorial work. Her work bridges theoretical research with practical applications in architectural education and cultural representation.
