Şebnem Elçi is a Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering at İzmir Institute of Technology (IYTE). Her research focuses on numerical modeling of hydrodynamics and sediment transport in lakes and reservoirs, thermal stratification, shoreline erosion, and field measurement techniques. She holds a PhD in Civil Engineering from Georgia Institute of Technology, an M.S. from Dokuz Eylül University, and a B.C. from Orta Doğu Teknik Üniversitesi. Her work includes studies on dam break simulations, reservoir sedimentation patterns, and water quality management in semiarid regions.
Key areas of research include sediment-bound contaminant transport, Coanda intake design optimization, and wind-powered systems for lake destratification. She has collaborated on projects such as the Ürkmez Dam Break analysis and Tahtalı Basin water quality assessments. Over 24 peer-reviewed articles demonstrate her expertise in reservoir dynamics, hydrokinetic energy systems, and environmental engineering solutions.
