Assistant Professor Şaban KARAAT is a distinguished academic in the Department of Plant Protection at Adıyaman University's Faculty of Agriculture. With over five decades of professional experience in plant protection, he brings extensive practical knowledge from previous roles as Director of both Diyarbakır and Adana Plant Protection Research Institutes, along with consultancy work for major agricultural organizations including Monsanto and the British Potato Council.
His educational background includes an undergraduate degree (1974), Master's (1981), and PhD (1991), all in Plant Protection from Ege and Çukurova Universities. His career trajectory demonstrates a remarkable transition from research institute leadership to academia, where he now contributes significantly to teaching and research at Adıyaman University since 2018.
Professor KARAAT's research interests focus on plant protection with specialization in entomology, acarology, and plant pathology, particularly concerning almond cultivation in Southeastern Anatolia. His work spans biological control, pest management, organic farming practices, and plant disease diagnostics. The establishment of Adıyaman University's Phytoclinic (Plant Health) Diagnostic Laboratory represents a major contribution to regional agricultural research infrastructure.
His publication record shows remarkable longevity and relevance, with research output spanning from the 1980s to the present day (2024). Recent work demonstrates a clear focus on almond diseases, particularly Monilinia laxa, while earlier publications addressed cotton field ecosystems in Southeastern Anatolia.
