Prof. ÜMİT SALAN is a faculty member at Marmara University, Faculty of Arts and Sciences, Department of Organic Chemistry, where he has served since 2014 as a Professor. He previously held positions as Associate Professor (2007–2014) and Assistant Professor (2001–2007) at the same institution. He began his academic career as a Lecturer at the Atatürk Faculty of Education, Marmara University, from 1993 to 1997. He currently serves as the Head of the Department of Chemistry and has previously held the role of Assistant Director at the Doğa Bitkileri Ve Su Ürünleri Uygulama Ve Araştırma Merkezi.
His research focuses on several key areas within organic chemistry, including Chemistry of Natural Products, Plant Chemistry, Chemistry of Dyes and Pigments, Organic Spectroscopy, and Organometallics. These interests are reflected in both Web of Science and Avesis research area classifications, indicating a sustained and specialized research trajectory in natural product and organic synthesis domains.
Prof. Salan completed his Doctorate in Chemistry at The University of Nottingham, UK (1989–1993), with a thesis titled Feverfew Chemistry. He also holds a Postgraduate degree (1985–1987) and an Undergraduate degree (1981–2009) from Marmara University’s Atatürk Faculty of Education in Mathematics and Science Education.
He has advised 27 theses during his academic career and has 48 publications indexed in Web of Science, contributing to an h-index of 3 (WoS), 12 (Scopus), and 4 (TrDizin). His work supports the UN Sustainable Development Goal for Quality Education.
