Ömer Tuğrul Turan

Ömer Tuğrul Turan is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering at Istanbul Technical University. His research focuses on structural engineering, particularly reinforced concrete and steel structures, with emphasis on seismic behavior, material properties, and bridge engineering. He holds a PhD from Oregon State University and has extensive teaching and research experience.

Education: PhD in Civil Engineering (Oregon State University), MSc in Structural Engineering (Istanbul Technical University), BSc in Civil Engineering (Istanbul Technical University).

Research Interests: Reinforced Concrete Structures, Steel Structures, Seismic Engineering, Bridge Engineering, Material Science, Structural Health Monitoring.

His recent studies include structural damage detection using deep learning, seismic performance of substandard columns, and bond properties of high-strength concrete with steel rebars. He has contributed to over 15 peer-reviewed articles and led projects on earthquake-resistant design and historical building assessment.

Grants: Conducted research on earthquake performance of inadequate columns and Bursa historical minarets. Advised numerous graduate students on topics like CLT building resilience and gusset plate buckling.

Labs/Teams: Involved in structural testing facilities and collaboration networks focusing on non-destructive evaluation and sustainable construction practices.
