Åsa Maria Wikforss is a Professor of Theoretical Philosophy at the Department of Philosophy, Stockholm University, since 2008. Her academic journey includes post-doctoral positions at Stockholm University (1997–2003), a Visiting Professorship at Oxford University (1999), and parental leaves. She holds a PhD from Columbia University (1996).
Her research focuses on philosophy of mind and language, semantic externalism, natural kind terms, and epistemology. Key areas include normativity of meaning, belief nature, and self-knowledge. Wikforss has led major research initiatives like the interdisciplinary 'Knowledge Resistance' programme (2019–2025) funded by the Swedish Foundation for Humanities and Social Sciences.
Notable awards include membership in the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences (2018) and the Swedish Academy (2019). Her work bridges analytic philosophy with empirical studies, addressing topics like semantic intuitions, extended cognition, and experimental semantics.
