Àlex Arenas Moreno

Àlex Arenas is Full Professor at Universitat Rovira i Virgili and ICREA Academia Professor with joint appointment as Chief Scientist at the U.S. Pacific Northwest National Laboratory. He directs research in complex systems science and network theory.

Education:

• PhD in Physics, University of Barcelona

His research develops mathematical models for complex systems including network synchronization, community detection in multilayer networks, and epidemiological forecasting. During COVID-19, he created models integrating mobility data and asymptomatic transmission used by Spanish and Catalan governments.

As Chair of Science and Humanism at URV, he founded the 'Do Science at URV' program encouraging STEM careers. He co-developed the Mathematical Engineering and Physics bachelor's program.
