Marius Varga is a Research Fellow in Healthcare Technology & Social Care at the University of Plymouth, based in the School of Nursing and Midwifery (Faculty of Health) and affiliated with the Centre for Health Technology (CHT). His work focuses on addressing digital exclusion through intergenerational co-design of extended reality (XR), social games, and voice AI technologies. He leads the Extended Reality and Social Games components of the EPSRC-funded ICONIC project, which targets coastal communities in Cornwall and Devon. His NIHR-funded BRIDGING project explores XR training for autistic employees and employers. He also develops the Glide-Tackling Frailty project, combining immersive technology with paragliding rig exercises to enhance mobility. Dr Varga holds a PhD in Immersive Multidimensional Data Visualisation from the School of Engineering, Computing and Mathematics. He has 11 years of teaching experience in higher education, specializing in game technologies, AI for games, programming, and graphics. He is proficient in Unreal, Unity, and Godot game engines. His research interests span digital inclusion, healthcare technology innovation, XR applications in social care, and immersive visualisation techniques for large datasets. Current projects include co-design principles for digital heritage systems in rural health interventions, underwater telepresence systems for marginalized groups, and VR-based training solutions for neuroscientific studies. His work contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals related to health equity and technological innovation.
