Reinhard Hendler is a distinguished Professor of Public Law at the Faculty of Law, University of Trier, where he has served since 1999. He directs the Institute for Environmental and Technology Law and co-edits the Journal for State and Municipal Law for Hesse/Rhineland-Palatinate/Saarland (LKRZ). His academic journey includes professorships at the Universities of Konstanz (1984-1988), Marburg (1988-1994), and Regensburg (1994-1999). Hendler's research focuses on constitutional and administrative law, particularly structures of political decision-making and decision-making (democracy, federalism, self-government, participation), environmental law, and building and spatial planning law. His scholarly work demonstrates a consistent interest in the relationship between environmental protection and legal frameworks, with increasing attention to renewable energy regulation in his later publications. His extensive publication record spans over five decades, with notable works including 'Baurecht, Raumordnungs- und Landesplanungsrecht' (co-authored with Hans-Joachim Koch), 'Allgemeines Verwaltungsrecht. His recent scholarship shows a growing emphasis on wind energy regulation, environmental impact assessment, and the legal challenges of balancing development with environmental protection.
